2008 Northfleet History Group Meetings.
Winter Tales of Northfleet - Members of the Group
Talk: 2nd December 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
Some members of the Group will tell humorous, sad and memorable tales of Northfleet in wintertime.
This will be followed by seasonal refreshments a picture quiz, another test of knowledge and a raffle.
Northfleet High Street Re-Visited - Alex Pavitt
Talk: 4th November 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
Following the success of his book "Memories of Northfleet High Street" Alex will give an illustrated talk showing some of the pictures from his book and other images from his collection, including Huggens College and Ebbsfleet park.
Grave Concerns - Mavis Windibank
Talk: 7th October 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
Before 1893, burials in Northfleet took place in St. Botolph's Churchyard which became rather full by the late 19th Century. This talk will cover how and why Northfleet came to have a municipal cemetary.
Dirty Dartford - Chris Bull

An amusing and illustrated talk showing the not so "dirty" aspects of Dartford

The life and times of a Victorian Entrepeneur and his influence on Northfleet
Illustrations of Gravesend and its Surrounds - Doug Grierson
Talk: 6th May 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
Doug is an avid collector of historical illustrations and will show us some of his pictures of the Gravesend area.
Biggin on the Bump - Bob Ogley
Talk: 1st April 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
A very popular author, broadcaster and speaker on the history of Kent. Today he will talk about the Biggin Hill Airport, well known for it's involvement in WWII.
Thames Barges in their Heyday - Tony Farnham
Talk: 4th March 2008 at 2:00 pm location: St. Botolph's Church Hall
You have seen them on the river and this is an opportunity to hear the history of the Thames Barges.

Anne Carter is unfortunately indisposed at present and is unable to give her talk.
At short notice Ken McGoverin will be talking about Northfleet stories and showing the latest acquisitions of old photographs.
Pocahontas and the Gravesend Connection - Sandra Soder

Sandra will not only talk about Pocahontas but also other local connections with the New World.
